Fewer

A launcher I wrote for myself. I had been using a minimal launcher for a while; it calmed the phone down, but it was not quite what I wanted. Stripping things away was not enough — I wanted something that pushed.

The difference is this: minimal launchers take things away — icons, colour, notification dots. After taking those away, Fewer puts two things back: what you mean to do today, and how many times you have picked up the phone. Both sit on the home screen. Seeing the number is a brake in itself, nobody wants it to be 90; the sentence reminds you, every time you unlock, that the day is for something.

Asking instead of locking came from the same place. A lock makes you find a way around the lock; a question leaves the answer with you. A screen that asks “how much today, how many minutes will you stay” before a time sink opens, and shows you what you said against what happened when you come back. The rest is yours.
